WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College indoor track & field team completed a busy weekend by competing at the Muskie Meet #3 hosted by Muskingum University Saturday. The Presidents had a select group of team members also compete Friday at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational.
Friday Recap – Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational
Jadyn Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) and
Sarah Schneider (Warren, Ohio/Lordstown) both fared well in the Long Jump. Both reached 4.77 meters in the event.
The women's squad finished fourth in the Women's Distance Medley Relay. The group of
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown),
Bre Trusler (Daisytown, Pa./California),
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and
Cassie Carr (Girard, Pa./Girard) recorded a time of 13:06, which is the second fastest in school history. The group currently leads the PAC, ranks third in the region and 11th in NCAA Division III.
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio / Lake Ridge Academy) logged a time of 3:18.47 in the 1000 Meters. That time is the third fastest in school history.
Sarahgrace Porter (Charleroi, Pa. / Charleroi) posted a personal-best mark of 9.87 meters in the Weight Throw.
On the men's side, the W&J Distance Medley Relay team posted a time of 10:38. That time is the third fastest in school history. That relay grouping of
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour),
Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford),
Brock Pennington (North East, Pa./North East) and
Jake Sinclair (Beallsville, Pa./Beth-Center) currently ranks 21st in NCAA Division III this season. That mark is tops In the PAC and second in the region.
Saturday Recap – Muskingum University – Muskie Meet #3
Carr registered a pair of first place finishes Saturday at Muskingum. Carr claimed a first-place finish in the Mile Run with a time of 5:23.07. Carr's mark helped her best the next best finisher by nearly 13 seconds. Carr added a first-place finish in the 1000 Meters, as the junior broke her own school record with a winning time of 3:11.34.
Trusler posted an eighth-place finish in the 400 Meters (1:04.93) and was 14th in the 200 Meters at 28.40. The time in the 400 ranks seventh in the PAC while the mark in the 200 ranks sixth.
LoCastro and Gilles both competed in the 5K. LoCastro recorded a time of 20:05.81 while Gilles finished at 20:30.83. The time of LoCastro is ninth best in W&J history.
Morgan Pender (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch) posted a personal-best heave of 10.16 in the Weight Throw Saturday at Muskingum.
Schneider made her collegiate debut in the 60-meter hurdles and clocked in at 10.34. Hartner finished with a time of 10.60 in the event.
On the men's side,
Anthony Cestaro III (Memphis, Tenn. / Christian Brothers) raced to a time of 7.15 in the 60 Meters to place seventh overall, a time that ranks as second best among PAC competitors this season. Cestaro III also came in ninth in the 200 Meters, with a time of 23.37, which ranks eighth in the conference.
Cestaro III also kicked off W&J's 4x400 relay team which finished third overall. They produced a top team in their heat of 3:32.83. Cestaro III was joined by Paul,
Riley Runyon (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) and Baughman. The time currently ranks sixth in the region and seventh in school history. The quartet won their heat by five seconds.
Baughman turned in a strong weekend overall. He finished as the runner-up Saturday in the 60-meter hurdles. Baughman logged a personal-best time of 8.59 in the event, which is tops in the PAC. He finished with a time of 23.86 in the 200 Meters, which is a personal best and 10th in the conference this season.
Sinclair and Paul both carded top five finishes Saturday in the 800 Meters. Sinclair posted a time of 1:59.63 while Paul clocked in at 2:00.12.
Raine Gratzmiller (Butler, Pa./Butler) was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:03.08, which is a personal best. Sinclair and Paul currently rank among the top 11 in the region.
Karson Kline (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) raced to a time of 9.21 in the 60-meter hurdles in his collegiate debut. Kline's time ranks seventh in the PAC and is ninth best in program history.
Pennington placed eighth in the 3K with a time of 9:03, which ranks third in the PAC this season and third in program history.
W&J returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison University.
