WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College indoor track & field team competed Saturday at the Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational.
Field Events:
The Presidents were led by
Nate Sciarro (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Riverside) on the men's side as he took first place in the Long Jump this evening with a distance of 6.61 meters.
Sciarro was backed by a fifth place finish by
Declan Fricko (New Bethlehem, Pa. / Redbank Valley) who posted a distance of 1.80 meters in the High Jump.
Andrew Bauer (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland) also put up a respectable day in the field as he worked his way to two top 10 finishes, one coming in the Long Jump (8th, 5.89 meters) and one in the Triple Jump (6th, 12.0 meters).
On the women's side, the Presidents were headed by
Savannah Sevacko (Crafton, Pa. / Carlynton), who posted a fifth place finish in the Triple Jump with a distance of 9.72 meters.
W&J also had contributions from freshman
Sarah Schneider (Warren, Ohio / Lordstown) who finished seventh (4.73 meters) in the Long Jump while
Jadyn Hartner (Washington, Pa. / Fort Cherry) finished just beyond her fellow teammate at ninth (4.71 meters) in the Long Jump.
Running Events:
On the men's side, the Presidents were led by a five headed machine in the distance events consisting of
Brock Pennington (North East, Pa. / North East),
Jake Sinclair (Beallsville, Pa. / Beth-Center),
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Montour),
Aden Dressler (Evans City, Pa. / Butler), and
Paul Collier (Heath, Ohio / Heath). These five all placed in the top seven of the 5000 meters this afternoon to start off an impressive day for the Presidents runners. Pennington posted a lifetime personal best time of 15:39 to take the title.
Dressler also added a 10th place finish (2:09.52) in the 800 meters while Paul (4th, 9:14.28) and Sinclair (6th, 9:23.17) posted two top six finishes in the 3,000 meters.
John Ridilla (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) and
Jacob Davis (South Burlington, VT / South Burlington) also had strong days for the Presidents as they both finished in the top 10 of the 3,000 meters as well with Ridilla in ninth (10:51.24) and Davis right behind him in 10th (11:06.93).
Daniel Deal (Butler, Pa. / Knoch) also added a remarkable performance in the Mile to the Presidents score as he finished second with a time of 4:43.
Junior captain
Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa. / Oxford Area) posted a formidable performance this afternoon as he finished in the top 10 in two events. He placed third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.64) and ninth in the 200 meters (23.80).
Karson Kline (Clearfield, Pa. / Clearfield) put in some respectable work today in the 60 meter hurdles as well as he finished seventh with a time of 8.93, which ranks third best in the PAC.
Anthony Cestaro III (Memphis, Tenn. / Christian Brothers) continues to put on a show during his freshman campaign, as he posted two more top four finishes this afternoon. Cestaro III finished fourth in the 400 meters (52.09) and finished third in the 200 meters (23.40).
Riley Runyon (Jamestown, Pa. / Jamestown) also posted a good day on the track with an eighth place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 53.77.
Paul and Sinclair posted finishes of fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 3K. Paul ran a personal-best time of 9:14 while Sinclair logged a time of 9:23.
The men's also took a fourth place finish in the 4x400m with a lineup consisting of Runyon.
Eli Westfort (Westborough, Mass. / Westborough),
Alex Puskaric (Irwin, Pa.) and Deal with a time of 3:49.
On the women's side, W&J was led by another freshman,
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa. / Jamestown). Anderson posted a first place finish in the 5K (18:39) and a third place finish in the 800 meters (2:27). Her time in the 5K ranks as second best in the PAC this season and third best in school history. Her time in the 800 meters is another personal best and third best in the PAC.
The Presidents cleaned shop in the 3000 meters this after noon as they had three of the five top finishes in this event.
Cassie Carr (Girard, Pa. / Girard) led the way with a first place finish followed up by
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio / Lake Ridge Academy) at third and
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) at fourth. The time of 10:33 by Carr is a personal best and establishes a new school record in the event, as she surpasses the previous mark which was held by Kristen Galligan. Gilles and LoCastro finished with personal bests in the event.
Senior captain
Bre Trusler (Daisytown, Pa. / California) also turned in a respectable performance on the track today as she posted two eighth place finishes. One coming in the 400 meters (1:04.11 as a season-best) and the other in the 200 meters (28.63) in a pair of loaded events.
The women's also stormed through the 4x400m as they took fourth place, as Hartner, Anderson, Schneider, and Trusler clocked in at 4:23.
W&J returns to action on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Spire Collegiate Indoor Games in Geneva, Ohio.
