Field Hockey earns academic recognition from NFHCA, Empire 8

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A total of seven student-athletes from the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey program were honored for their academic work by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and the Empire 8 Conference.

Over 1,700 student-athletes from 157 Division III institutions have been named to the 2022 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, honors undergraduate collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach.

Representing W&J on the NFHCA list were Lindsey Blount (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint), Camryn Cresci (Wilmington, Del. / Alexis I. DuPont), Madison Devine (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), Lindsey Diggan (Sinking Spring, Pa. / Governor Mifflin), Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) and Sara Schriver (Greenville, S.C. / Christ Church Episcopal School).

Additionally, Devine, Diggan, Giering and Shriver represented W&J on the 2022 Fall Semester Empire 8 Presidents List, which was announced Wednesday. A total of 1,100 student-athletes from the league's membership were recognized for their excellence in the classroom this past semester with President's List distinction, one of the most prestigious honors that the Empire 8 recognizes.

Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade-point average or higher during the semester, while participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8 Conference."
