GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's water polo team used strong play in the middle quarters to earn a 19-13 win over host Grove City College Friday evening in a CWPA Division III East Division game.
The Presidents conclude the regular season at 7-1 in CWPA East Division play. Grove City finishes up the regular season at 4-4 in the East. Friday's victory gives W&J the sweep of the head-to-head regular season series.
A trio of Presidents,
Laura Anthony (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep),
Megan DePrez (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) and
Ryley McClellan (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), finished with five goals apiece to lead a balanced offensive output.
Additionally,
Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla. / Venice), became the fourth President to register a hat trick in the victory.
Sky Wald (Granada Hills, Calif. / John F. Kennedy) made the start in goal and recorded the win. Wald finished with 12 saves.
The Presidents trailed by a 4-3 score after the first quarter. W&J responded with strong second and third quarters to take control. The Red and Black outscored the Wolverines 7-2 in the second and 5-2 in the third to build a 15-8 lead heading to the fourth.
W&J heads to the CWPA Division III Championship at Macalester University on April 21-23. The Presidents, who will be the four seed, will face the fifth-seeded Scots in the opening round on April 21.
