PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Washington & Jefferson College freshman
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) completed her impressive debut season with the Presidents Thursday evening by competing in the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The three-day championship event is being held through Saturday at the Polisseni Track & Field Complex at St. John Fisher University in New York.
Anderson concluded her season by logging a time of 4:50.52 in the prelims of the 1500 Meters. The first-year President was one of three freshmen to qualify for the championships in the 1500.
Anderson also became the first W&J women's student-athlete to compete at the Outdoor Track & Field National Championships since Cheyenne Mangold did so in 2014.
Anderson posted a school record time of 4:29.59 at Baldwin Wallace University on May 11 to gain the qualifying time in the 1500 Meters.
Earlier this week, Anderson received All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Anderson posted the top time for W&J in the 800 (2:17.78), the 1500 (4:29.59), the 5K (17:52.25) and the 10K (39:14.92) during the outdoor season. Among PAC performers, her time in the 1500 ranked first while her time in the 800 was third best. Her time in the 5K was fourth best in the PAC and her time in the 10K ranked sixth best on the conference performance list.
Anderson earned PAC Rookie of the Week honors five times (three times in outdoor) during the spring semester.
