WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The promotion of
Phillip Bobich to defensive coordinator highlighted a series of recent changes to the Washington & Jefferson College football coaching staff to start the New Year.
Bobich has served as a member of the coaching staff since 2019. After serving as a coaching intern for the 2019 season, Bobich was promoted to a full-time position as Special Teams Coordinator/Linebackers Coach in October 2020. During his time as special teams coordinator, W&J has had six student-athletes earn All-Presidents' Athletic Conference honors while earning PAC Special Teams Player of the Week 12 times. No stranger to W&J football, Bobich earned a pair of All-PAC honors during his time as a standout performer for the Red and Black at left tackle from 2015-18.
Ken Cranston, a two-year member of the staff, has been elevated to a full-time capacity on the coaching staff. Cranston served as an Intern Assistant Coach over the past two seasons. Cranston served as a member of the defensive coaching staff last season and oversaw the development of the corner backs last fall.
Bruno Fabrycki led the PAC with seven interceptions under Cranston's tutelage.
Drew Ehrlich, a three-year standout and three-time All-PAC First Teamer for the Presidents as a player, will now serve as an Intern Assistant Coach. Ehrlich joined the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in August. He worked with the defensive backs with a focus on the safeties this past season. Ehrlich helped mentor
Zachai Simmons to a breakout season that included earning All-PAC Second Team honors.
The program welcomes
Sam Bubonics as its newest addition to the coaching staff as an Intern Assistant Coach. Bubonics just wrapped up his time as a five-year member of the Dayton Flyers football program. He caught 57 passes for 780 yards and five touchdowns over 24 games for the Flyers.
W&J finished the 2023 season with a 9-2 overall record, which is the 40th consecutive winning season for the program. The Presidents capped the 2023 campaign with a 46-21 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Nov. 19.
