YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College track & field teams completed their first events of the 2024-25 season at the 2024 YSU Icebreaker presented by Southwoods Health. Each team competed against competition from all NCAA Divisions (DI, DII, DIII) and logged six personal-best times between the two units.
Headlining the Presidents efforts was
Brock Pennington (North East, Pa./North East) who broke the W&J school record in the men's indoor 5,000-meter run. Pennington raced to a fourth-place finish and 14:47.82 mark in the event, surpassing the previous 14:52.71 mark held by Harley Moyer of the 2018 team.
Finishing close behind was teammate
Dominic Flitcraft (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) in ninth place in the 5k. Flitcraft's personal-best time of 14:58.46 slots him at third all-time at W&J in the indoor event.
Sophomore
Collin Helmick (Salem, Ohio/Salem) registered a personal-best run in the 5k with a new best time mark of 16:34.03 to finish 28
th in the event. In 29

Jake Sinclair (Beallsville, Pa./Beth-Center) rumbled to a 16:45.38 mark.
Wrapping up the men's competitors was
Daniel Deal (Butler, Pa./Knoch) who competed in the men's indoor 3,000-meter run. Deal ran to a 9:35.75 mark in the event to finish 14
th.
Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) spearheaded the W&J women at the YSU Icebreaker with a win after an All-American cross country season. Anderson won the women's indoor 5,000-meter run with a new personal-best time of 17:38.94. Anderson beat out NCAA Division I runners from West Virginia University, Kent State University, Duquesne University and runners from top Division II programs.

Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) who logged a personal-best time in the 5k. Gilles' personal-best time of 19:03.97 elevates her to 5
th all-time at W&J in the indoor 5k.
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) wrapped the afternoon in 26
th in the 5k with a time of 20:43.41.
Closing out the women's runners was
Cali LaRue (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) who earned a personal-best time. In the women's mile run, LaRue logged a personal-best time of 5:38.75. Her new top mark ranks 10
th all-time at W&J in the indoor mile run.
W&J track & field manages a quick turnaround with a visit to the Spartan Alumni Meet hosted by Case Western Reserve. The meet is scheduled to commence at 10:30 a.m. at the Veale Convocation, Recreation, and Athletic Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
