Anderson wins Mile Run, breaks two school records to lead W&J at SPIRE Indoor Games

GENEVA, Ohio – Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) put together another memorable afternoon to lead the efforts of the Washington & Jefferson College track and field teams Saturday in competition at the 2024 SPIRE Indoor Games.

Anderson established new school record times in the Mile Run and the 800 Meters, respectively. Anderson raced to a winning time of 5:02.49 in the Mile to outpace a loaded field of 75 runners. Anderson finished immediately ahead of six Division I runners in the event.

Anderson recorded a time of 2:20.84 in the 800 Meters. The time put her 12th in the event and put her first all-time at W&J in the event.

Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio / Lake Ridge Academy) put together a time of 2:31.24 in the 800 Meters. That time ranks Gilles seventh in program history in the event.

Grace Reid-Vensel (Washington, Pa. / Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) registered a time of 19:42.43 in the 5K to finish 18th overall. That time, which was the best by a Division III runner in the event, puts Reid-Vensel seventh all-time at W&J.

On the men's side, Dominic Flitcraft (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and Brock Pennington (North East, Pa./North East) both finished inside the top 10 of the 5K.

Flitcraft posted a time of 15:11.61 to finish eighth while Pennington came in at 15:14.43 to finish ninth. Those respective times rank Flitcraft third and Pennington fourth on W&J's all-time top 10 list in the event.

Zachary Werner (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) posted a mark of 13.09 meters (42' 11.5") in the Weight Throw. Werner's toss puts him fourth all-time at W&J in the event.

Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) posted a season-best time of 50.42 in the 400 Meters. Baughman also had the top Division III time in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.57.
