WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's basketball team was ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Region VII rankings, which were released to the public by the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon.
W&J currently sports a 21-2 overall record and a 17-1 mark in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The Presidents sit a half game ahead of Chatham University (17-2 PAC) for first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference league standings.
The Presidents were one of seven teams highlighted in the Region VII rankings released Tuesday.
Hope (22-1), the leader of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, topped the Region VII rankings while Baldwin Wallace (19-4), leader of the Ohio Athletic Conference, ranks second. A trio of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) teams followed. DePauw (17-7), Ohio Wesleyan (19-4) and Denison (17-6) ranked three, four and five, respectively. W&J (21-2) followed in sixth while Marietta (18-5) slotted in seventh.
The Presidents sport a 2-1 record against those teams in 2023-24. The Red and Black edged NCAC-leader Ohio Wesleyan by a 58-57 score in the championship game of the Hampton Inn by Hilton Women's Basketball Tip-off on Nov. 11. The Presidents rolled by Marietta to the tune of an 82-65 victory on Dec. 19. W&J suffered a narrow 63-60 loss to the Denison Big Red on a neutral floor at Otterbein Unviersity's Smokey Ballenger Classic on Dec. 29.
Region VII consists of schools from the PAC, the NCAC, the MIAA, the OAC and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).
W&J, winners of 12-straight games, returns to action with a road trip to Grove City on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
