WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's basketball team was listed in the first edition of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball regional rankings released to the public on Tuesday.
The Presidents are one of seven teams highlighted in the first set of Region VII rankings, which lists schools alphabetically rather than a true numerical ranking. The second set of regional rankings, which will be released on Tuesday, Feb. 13, will be the first to rank the teams in each region.
W&J currently sports a 19-2 overall record and a 15-1 mark in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The Presidents sit a half game ahead of Chatham University (15-2) for first place in the league standings.
Joining W&J in the Region VII listings were Baldwin Wallace, Denison, DePauw, Hope, Marietta and Ohio Wesleyan.
The Presidents sport a 2-1 record against those teams in 2023-24. The Red and Black topped Ohio Wesleyan by a 58-57 score in the championship game of the Hampton Inn by Hilton Women's Basketball Tip-off on Nov. 11. The Presidents rolled by Marietta to the tune of an 82-65 victory on Dec. 19. W&J suffered a narrow 63-60 loss to the Denison Big Red on a neutral floor on Dec. 29.
Region VII consists of schools from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and the PAC.
W&J will aim to continue its winning streak when they host Geneva College to Salvitti Family Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.
