FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's water polo team dropped a 16-9 decision to Connecticut College in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon in Florida. Both teams are in Florida on training trips during Spring Break.
W&J is 3-6 overall in 2024. Connecticut College improves to 6-1 overall.
The Camels and Presidents went back-and-forth during the opening quarter, as Connecticut led 5-3 after the first eight minutes of action.
The two teams continued to battle in the second quarter. Connecticut College netted three of the five goals during the frame. The Camels held an 8-5 halftime lead over the Presidents.
Connecticut College outpaced W&J by an 8-4 margin over the final 16 minutes to secure the victory.
Emma Halle (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led the Presidents with three goals in the loss. Laura Anthony (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice) recorded two scores apiece. Mekkiye Ergun (Chicago, Ill. / Lake View) and Hallie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas / Friendswood) each reached the scoring column once.
Anthony and Halle both registered a pair of assists.
The three goalkeepers split time in net. Sky Wald (Granada Hills, Calif. / John F. Kennedy) made four saves while Alliey Cunningham (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) finished with three stops. Emily Bringazi (Amador County, Calif. / Amador) made two saves.
W&J returns to action this weekend in Minnesota. The Presidents will play four matches at Macalester College in St. Paul. W&J will face Austin on Friday before taking on Macalester and Augustana on Saturday. W&J will close up CWPA play with a matchup versus Carthage on Sunday.
