THE SERIES: Washington & Jefferson and Case Western Reserve face off for the 25th meeting since the merger of Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University. The Presidents lead the series 14-10, including wins in each of the last two games between the squads. W&J holds a 5-3 advantage over the Spartans in games played since CWRU's return to the PAC in 2014. The Presidents won last year's matchup 34-21 at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The last time the teams faced off in Washington came in 2023, when W&J held off a late comeback attempt from Case to win 38-33 under the lights. The Spartans' last victory over W&J came in 2022, when the visiting Presidents gave up two long touchdown passes and fell 14-10.
RICH TRADITION: The Washington & Jefferson football program has won 793 games in its 132-year history (794–407–40), ranking third among NCAA Division III schools behind Mount Union (874) and Wittenberg (807). Widener (734) and Wabash (731) round out the D-III top five. Across all NCAA divisions, the Presidents' win total places them 22nd all-time.
NOVEMBER REIGN: W&J has enjoyed consistent success in November under
Mike Sirianni, going 52-15 (.776) in the month since the start of the 2003 season.
W&J VS. THE PAC: The Presidents have claimed 27 PAC championships—the most in league history and more than the next three programs combined. Former members Carnegie Mellon (10), John Carroll (8), and Thomas More (8) trail behind. Among current PAC programs, Allegheny, Bethany, and Grove City each hold four titles. W&J also maintains a winning record against every current PAC opponent:
Team Record (Pct.)
Allegheny 24-20-1 (.545)
Bethany 79-21 (.790)
Case Western Reserve 22-19-1 (.537)
Geneva 50-19-2 (.725)
Grove City 46-14 (.767)
Hiram 12-7-1 (.632)
Saint Vincent 16-1 (.941)
Thiel 53-22-2 (.707)
Waynesburg 49-4 (.925)
Westminster 40-7 (.851)
Total 393-134-7 (.746)
HALFWAY HOME: W&J has thrived under
Mike Sirianni when leading at halftime, posting a 157–6 record (.963) in such games.
SUPER STAHL: Senior quarterback
Kellan Stahl (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) put together a record-breaking performance against Waynesburg in Week Eight. The signal-caller completed 27 of 28 passes (96.4%) for 408 yards and five touchdowns. His completion percentage set a Division III single-game record (minimum 20 attempts), surpassing the mark set by John Carroll quarterback Nick Semptimphelter in Week One of the 2025 season, also against Waynesburg. Stahl became the first Presidents passer to throw for 400 yards in a game in nearly six years, since Jacob Adams '20 threw for 499 yards against Westminster on October 26, 2019. He has averaged an impressive 314 passing yards per game this season, ranking ninth in Division III.
BALL HAWKS: Senior cornerback
Angelo Volomino (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) has been one of the top defenders in the country this season. His 13 passes defended lead the PAC and are tied for third in Division III. Joining Volomino in the secondary, sophomore defensive back
Dante DeRubbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) has recorded five interceptions this season, tied for second in the nation.
DYNAMIC DUO: Senior wideouts
John Peduzzi (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Christian Academy) and
Jacob Macosko (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) form one of the most decorated receiving tandems in the NCAA. In the 2024 campaign, the duo became the first in W&J history to each surpass 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. In Week One, Peduzzi moved into second all-time in school history for both receiving yards and touchdowns, standing eight scores behind Jesse Zubik '18 on the touchdown list. Macosko found the end zone twice against Waynesburg, moving into a tie for fifth place in W&J history with 30 touchdown receptions.
SATURDAY NIGHT'S ALRIGHT: W&J football won its lone night game of the season in Week Four at Grove City. Overall, the Presidents have been successful in night games over the last few years, posting a 10–3 record in night contests during the 2020s. The last night-game loss for W&J came against Carnegie Mellon in the 2023 season. This matchup will mark the third night game in the last four meetings between W&J and CWRU. The Presidents defeated the Spartans 38–33 under the Cameron Stadium lights in 2023, while Case claimed a 14–10 victory in Cleveland during a 2022 night game.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Presidents have won 58 of their last 64 games at Cameron Stadium, boasting a .906 winning percentage. W&J has gone undefeated at home in seven of the last twelve seasons, most recently in 2023.
CALL THE EXTERMINATOR: The Presidents outgained Waynesburg 605–81 in a 56–0 victory in Week Eight. It marked the first time since 2018 that W&J outgained an opponent by more than 500 yards. The game was also the fourth shutout of Waynesburg in the past six meetings between the programs.

THE LAST MATCHUP IN DETAIL: The Presidents and Spartans last faced off in Week Ten of the 2024 season, with W&J defeating CWRU 34–21 behind a virtuoso offensive performance led by quarterback
Jacob Pugh '25. Pugh completed 34 of 44 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns. Case moved the ball effectively through the air, but three interceptions and six sacks—including 3.5 from defensive tackle
Dawson Dietz (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) '25—kept the Spartans' offense struggling.
After two second-quarter scores gave the Presidents a 21–7 halftime lead, W&J maintained control the rest of the way, holding the ball for nearly 15 more minutes than Case.
Kobe Derosa (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) led the ground attack for W&J, compiling 89 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.
Zach Cernuto (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) '25 was Pugh's top target, finishing with 123 yards and a score on 14 receptions.
Brandon Brown (Monessen, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) '24 added two interceptions against the Spartans.
For CWRU, quarterback Alex Fromberg threw for 421 yards, but the Spartans managed just 23 rushing yards on 21 carries, largely due to the six sacks. Dylan Cave led Case in receiving, hauling in nine passes for 211 yards.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: Case Western Reserve has put together a strong offensive season. Junior quarterback Sam DeTillio has led the offense since Week Two, after an injury at the position in Week One. DeTillio has been efficient, averaging 9.18 yards per attempt on 138 passes, though he has struggled at times with turnovers, throwing five interceptions, including three against Saint Vincent.
Defensively, CWRU has limited opponents to just 99 first downs, ranking 23rd nationally. The Spartans have also played disciplined football, accumulating the 17th fewest penalty yards in Division III. On special teams, however, Case has shown some vulnerability, with three kicks blocked and one kick returned for a touchdown.
MOVING THE ROCK: The W&J offense has been a dominant unit this season. The Presidents rank 12th in Division III in total offense, averaging 498.7 yards per game. Their passing attack leads the way, averaging 335.3 yards per game through the air, also ranking 12th nationally. W&J's 211 first downs rank second in Division III, trailing only Wisconsin–River Falls.
PRESIDENTIAL PRESSURE: The W&J pass rush has been a consistent force this season. The Presidents rank fourth in Division III, averaging 3.71 team sacks per game. Junior rusher
Antoine Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) leads the unit with 5.5 sacks, while freshman
Alex Boyce (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) and junior
Nathaniel Kadosh-Harris (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) have each recorded 3.5 sacks. Sophomore inside linebacker
Brock Sherman (Copley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) has added three sacks and leads the team with 68 tackles.
Seniors
Aidan Thomas (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and
Tyler Primrose (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) have also made significant contributions up front. Thomas has totaled 6.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and three pass breakups at the line of scrimmage, while Primrose has recorded three sacks and five tackles for loss.
ONE AWAY: The Presidents are one win away from securing a 42nd consecutive winning season. W&J began its streak in 1984, when the John Luckhardt-led Presidents went 10–2 and captured the program's first-ever playoff victory. Only Linfield and Mount Union have longer active streaks of consecutive winning seasons.
CHASING 200: W&J's
Mike Sirianni stands at 199 career wins, just one shy of becoming the sixth active NCAA football head coach to reach 200, and 94th all-time in NCAA history.
