PRESIDENTS AGAINST THE FIELD: The Presidents will take on the Pioneers of Marietta College for the fifth consecutive season, this year as a part of the 39th annual Jim Meagle Classic.  Last year's matchup between the two squads resulted in a 63-59 victory for the Pioneers, ending W&J's two-game winning streak in the series. Under the direction of Head Coach Jina DeRubbo, W&J holds a 5-6 (.455) record against Marietta. Saturday's 1:00 PM matchup will be the first time ever that W&J faces off against SUNY Cortland in women's basketball. The talented Red Dragons squad enters the weekend ranked #7 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll. #17 Carnegie Mellon rounds out the four team field, but W&J will not face the Tartans, as the two teams have a non-conference matchup set for later this season. With W&J debuting at No. 25 in the first regular-season WBCA coaches' poll, three teams in the tournament now hold rankings in at least one of the nation's two premier polls.

PROGRAM PINNACLE: The Washington & Jefferson Presidents' 2024-25 campaign was their best in the 51-year history of women's basketball at the College. The team's 24 wins are tied for the most in a single season at W&J, and their thrilling overtime victory over #24 Messiah, in the first round of the national tournament, was the first NCAA tournament win in program history. W&J also secured their 13th conference tournament championship with a title-round triumph over Chatham.

DERUBBO DOMINANCE: Head Coach Jina DeRubbo enters her 22nd year on the W&J bench for the 2025-26 season. DeRubbo, who owns a 418-152 record leading the Presidents, has captured 3 Presidents' Athletic Conference titles in her time in Washington. She has been named the league's coach of the year 11 times throughout her career, and earned the award for a fourth consecutive season in 2024-25. Her squad's trip to the NCAA tournament a year ago, was the 13th time DeRubbo has guided one of  her teams to the postseason. On a national level, DeRubbo ranks 16th among active coaches in Division III in wins.

PERFECT PRESIDENTS: W&J has started the 2025-26 season on the right foot, winning its first three matchups of the non-league schedule. After defeating Ohio Northern handedly last Friday (Nov. 14), 82-42, the Presidents narrowly escaped the high pressure Mount Union Purple Raiders the following afternoon by a final score of 66-65, to move to 3-0. This marks the second time in the last three years that W&J has gone unbeaten in the first three games of the year.

RELIABLE RILEY: In her first full season wearing Red & Black, graduate student Riley DeRubbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) has wasted no time making an impact. She earned the PAC's first Player of the Week honor of the 2025–26 season and also secured a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. DeRubbo leads the PAC in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game, while also leading the league in  free throw (.938) and three-point shooting percentage (.625). DeRubbo also buried a crucial three-pointer that put the Presidents ahead for good in their one-point thriller against Mount Union on Saturday.

FAMILY TIES: Two members of the DeRubbo family, mother Jina and daughter Riley, are now both connected  to W&J women's basketball. After competing at the Division I level as an undergraduate student, Riley joined the Presidents midway through the 2024–25 season. Since her arrival, the mother-daughter duo has led the team to an impressive 18–3 record. Meanwhile, Riley's brother, Dante, is also making his mark on campus with a strong season for the W&J football team this fall.

STELLAR STELLANIE: W&J senior captain Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) is averaging 14.7 points per game to this point, good enough for eighth-best in the PAC. In W&J's triumph over Ohio Northern, Loutsion tallied 21 points in just 22 minutes of action, going 14 of 19 from the field and 3-8 from beyond the arc.

NATIONAL NUMBERS: In the first round of regular season voting, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Coaches' Poll has W&J ranked 25th in the nation. The D3hoops.com preseason poll has the Presidents receiving 72 votes, resulting in a ranking that places W&J two spots shy of cracking the top-25.
