ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College Women's Water Polo team collected a second day sweep in the CWPA Weekend at Penn State Behrend on Sunday to go 4-0 on the weekend.
W&J 17, Connecticut College 8
W&J claimed their third straight win of the weekend in their morning matchup against Connecticut College.
Eight Presidents scored in the contest with six of the eight netting multiple goals. Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice) paced the Presidents offensively with four goals. Emma Halle (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) followed behind with three goals.
Halle scored the first goal of the game at the 7:30 mark of the first quarter. Both teams put up four goals to leave the first quarter tied, 4-4.
W&J put up four consecutive goals to start the second quarter before the Camels scored their only goal of the eight-minute quarter. The Presidents then put up three more scores before the buzzer sounded concluding the first half of play with the Presidents ahead 11-5.
Both teams slowed offensively in the third with Connecticut scoring the first marker of the third. W&J followed with two goals in response to conclude the scoring for both teams in the third quarter, 13-6.
Connecticut chipped away at the Presidents' advantage with an early marker in the final frame, but four straight goals from W&J to end the contest gave the Presidents the 17-8 win.
W&J 30, Grove City 16
Emmie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) paced the Presidents in game two with a career-best 11 goals. E. Ratcliff scored hat tricks in the first, third and final quarters of play with two scores in the second quarter. Halle followed with six goals and Hallie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) trailed Halle with five goals in the game.
The Presidents put up seven goals in the first eight minutes of play while keeping the Wolverines at five. After adding seven more points in the second, the Red & Black headed into the half with a 14-7 lead.
Coming back strong in the third, W&J extended their lead to 23-13 after netting nine goals in the third. The Presidents ensured victory by racking up another seven goal quarter in the final eight minutes of regulation to claim a 30-16 victory over the Grove City Wolverines.
Up Next: W&J heads next to Grove City, Pa. to compete in the CWPA Weekend at Grove City on March 28 and March 29. The Presidents take on Carthage (11:40 a.m.) and Augustana (5:00 p.m.) in day one of competition.
