MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Washington & Jefferson College track & field teams opened outdoor track & field competition with record days on the track at the Marty Pushkin Invitational, hosted by West Virginia University.
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) each set new school records in the 1,500-meter steeplechase. LoCastro raced to a 5:45.52 time to finish fifth in the steeplechase while Paul raced to a time of 4:36.30, placing him fourth.
Other top finishes for the W&J women included the performance of
Sarah Schneider (Warren, Ohio/Lordstown) in the hurdles and jumps. In the 100-meter hurdles, the versatile junior finished second with a time of 16.53. She also took sixth in the long jump with a distance of 4.91 meters (16' 1.50").
Dual-sport athlete
Alyssa Trn (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) had a day on the track and in the field events. Trn's best performance came in the high jump, finishing second with a top height of 1.45 meters (4' 9"). She also took 13
th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.62.
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) raced to a personal-best time of 2:24.62 in the 800-meter run to finish fourth.
Lainey Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) also took a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:14.14.
Anthony Cestaro III (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers) and
Brock Pennington (North East, Pa./North East) each registered second-place finishes for the W&J men. Cestaro III finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.73. Pennington raced to a second-place mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.95.
Noah Neil (California, Pa./California Area) and
Nick DeSanto (Erie, Pa./McDowell) both finished ninth in the high jump with a top leap of 1.70 meters (5' 7").
W&J returns to action Friday (March 28) at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
