Women’s Water Polo Advances to CWPA Championship with Triumph over Macalester

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's water polo team (14-6, 6-2) achieved a 9-6 victory over the No. 2 seed Macalester Scots (11-9, 7-1) to procure a spot in the 2025 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championship game and a ticket to the Women's Water Polo Division III National Championships.

Emma Halle led the offense against the Scots with four goals and an assist. Emmie Ratcliff and Sydney Neumann netted two goals each. Hallie Ratcliff rounded out the scoring with one goal. Didovich dished out a game-high three assists. Didovich, E. Ratcliff and Neumann all seized a steal each for the Red & Black.

Coming out of the first quarter, Macalester led 2-1 after Neumann netted a power-play goal with 13 seconds left on the clock.

W&J outscored Macalester in the second quarter, 3-2, to wipe the slate clean and head into the second half tied at four. The Presidents goals were netted by E. Ratcliff (2) and Halle, respectively.

Halle started the scoring in the second half by converting a penalty goal. Halle then assisted Neumann in the next Presidents goal with 4:04 left in the third quarter, 6-4. The Scots gained a goal on a power play shortly after. Halle restored the two-point lead with a goal in the last minute of the quarter, 7-5.

Macalester scored first in the final quarter but goals from E. Ratcliff and Halle, 9-6, insured the win for the Presidents as they held the Scots scoreless for the remainder of the game. The victory places W&J in their first CWPA Championship game since the 2017 season where they fell to Macalester in overtime.

Augustana, the reigning CWPA champions, upset the No. 1 seed Austin Kangaroos to progress to the Championship game as well. The Presidents will take on No. 4 seed Augustana at 1:30 p.m. CST in the CWPA Division III Championship game tomorrow (April 13).
