Women’s Golf Closes Day Two at Win Palmer Cup

SEWICKLEY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's golf team closed out action at the Win Palmer Cup in sixth place. The women remained consistent throughout both days to hold sixth place with a total team score of 670 (+110).

Tournament: Win Palmer Cup

W&J: 6th out of 8
 
Top W&J Individual: Junior MacKenzie Schmeltz (Edwardsburg, Mich./Saint Joseph) led the field for the Presidents. Her 157 (+17) score on the weekend tied with two opposing golfers for seventh place. Schmeltz posted a round one score of 79 (+9). In round two, she posted a score of 78 (+8) to climb from 17th place in day one to her three-way tie in seventh place.

Notables: Megan Joyce (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) finished next best for the Presidents, sitting at 27th place with a weekend score of 169 (+29). Dinah Bailey (Baden, Pa./Ambridge), Julia Barthelemy (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) and Antolena Damico (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) claimed the 30, 31 and 32 spots on the leaderboard. Bailey scored a 173 (+33) on the week followed by Barthelemy who trailed one stroke behind, 174 (+37). Damico shot a 176 (+36) weekend score to round out the W&J top five. Joyce, Bailey and Barthelemy all shot improved day two scores to hold the Presidents' team rank steady at sixth.
 
Tournament Highlights
Top Team: Carnegie Mellon sealed the top spot of the Win Palmer Cup with an improved 315 (+52) in the back 18. Rhodes and Denison finished three strokes apart to take second and third place, respectively.
 
Top Individual: Ava Bankston of Rhodes claimed the individual title. Bankston finished day one tied for fifth place with fellow Rhodes golfer Megan Morris after shooting a 75 (+5). Bankston improved to a 73 (+3) in the second day to make the climb to first place.
 
Up Next: W&J will take part in the spring portion of the 2024-25 PAC Golf Championships. The final 36 holes will be played at Mill Creek Golf Club in Boardman, Ohio (April 25-26).
