WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson Women's Water Polo team (11-5, 6-2) claimed victory over Grove City (4-12, 2-6) and Penn State Behrend (4-10, 4-7) on Senior Recognition Day in the Henry Natatorium.
Prior to the start of the day's action Sydney Neumann (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan), Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice), Emma Halle (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Mekkiye Ergun (Chicago, Ill./Lake View), Laura Anthony (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Alliey Cunningham (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) were honored for their hard work and dedication to the team.
Game One – W&J 18, Grove City 13
The Presidents used a standout first quarter to claim a win over the visiting Wolverines.
W&J created a 7-2 deficit after the first eight minutes of play. Seniors Halle and Neumann netted a hat trick and a goal, respectively, to total four of the seven markers in the first quarter offensive swell.
The Presidents and Wolverines matched pace for the remainder of the contest. Both teams put up four in the second quarter, three in the third and four in the fourth.
Halle netted a game-high six goals. Neumann and Autumn Woollcott (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) also had multi-goal efforts, each tallying two apiece.
Game Two – W&J 26, Penn State Behrend 8
Seven Presidents scored in game two, six having multiple goals in the outing. Halle led the team with six markers. Hallie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) followed close behind with five goals.
The Presidents started again by building a 7-2 advantage in the first quarter. Five of the seven goals were from seniors in the first quarter as Halle and Neumann each netted two and Didovich added a tally as well.
W&J deepened their lead in the succeeding three quarters as they tacked on eight in the second quarter, five in the third and six in the final quarter of play to claim a 26-8 win over the visiting Penn State Behrand Lions.
Anthony, Halle, Emmie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) and Neumann were the only Presidents to find the back of the net multiple times in a single quarter.
