Malezanov Named ACWPC Division III Coach of the Year, Three Presidents Selected to All-America Teams

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's water polo team earned four honors on the 2025 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Division III Women's Varsity All-America Teams, announced by the organization Wednesday (May 28).
 
Head Coach Nikola Malezanov was named ACWPC Women's Division III Coach of the Year. Earning ACWPC All-America Second Team honors is senior Emma Halle (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). Senior Alliey Cunningham (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and freshman Emmie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) each were named All-America Honorable Mention.
 
Malezanov led the Presidents to their first USA Water Polo (USAWP) Division III National Championship in Program History following their runner-up finish at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Tournament. The Presidents went on to finish fourth at Nationals after a thrilling third-place match that went three extra periods with the CWPA champions Augustana, 13-12.
 
Malezanov also earned his first CWPA Coach of the Year honor in his eighth official year as the men's and women's water polo head coach after serving as the interim head coach in the 2016 season. Malezanov attained the honor after leading the program to a 6-2 record in CWPA play and 12-6 overall in the regular season, converting his winning percentage from .368 in 2024 to .667 in the 2025 regular season.
 
Halle earns her second ACWPC All-America honor after being named an Honorable Mention in 2024. This season Halle powered the W&J offensive attack with 74 goals, 60 of which were scored in the regular season. Halle netted a hat trick at USAWP Nationals in their third-place match against Augustana with four steals.
 
Following the CWPA Tournament, Halle was named the CWPA Division III Championship Player of the Tournament and All-Tournament First Team. The senior center was also tabbed with All-CWPA honors this season, earning a First Team nod prior to the postseason.
 
Ratcliff adds more hardware following her assertive freshman campaign, earning a ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention nod. The freshman phenom finishes her first campaign with the Presidents having netted 67 goals, scoring 61 in the regular season. Ratcliff tallied three points for W&J at USAWP Nationals, scoring one goal and dishing two assists against Augustana.
 
Ratcliff was also named CWPA Division III Championship Rookie of the Tournament and All-Tournament First Team after the team's runner-up finish. Prior to the postseason, Ratcliff was also named the CWPA Division III Rookie of the Year, the first President to earn the award since Laura Travers in 2014. Ratcliff also collected All-CWPA First Team laurels.
 
Cunningham rounds out the representation for W&J on the ACWPC All-America teams, earning a spot on the Honorable Mention team. Cunningham led the Presidents' defensive efforts as the primary goalie in 2025. The senior goal stopper saved 37 shots in the postseason. Her postseason game-high came during the CWPA Semifinals 9-6 victory over No. 2 seeded Macalester. Cunningham saved 13 shot attempts to help the Presidents advance to the CWPA Championship which secured them a spot at USAWP Nationals.
 
For her efforts in the conference tournament, Cunningham was named CWPA Division III Championship All-Tournament Second Team.
 
The Presidents ended their historic season with a 14-9 overall with a 6-2 conference mark.
