SHARON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College women's golf opened up its 2025 fall season by winning the seven-team Thiel Fall Invitational.
The Basics
Tournament: Thiel Fall Invitational
Location: Avalon at Buhl, Sharon, Pa.
W&J: 1st out of 7
Top W&J Individual: Senior captain
Megan Joyce (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) finished in a tie for third place. She finished with a score of 78, only two shots off the lead golfer through 18 holes.
Notables: Four additional Presidents finished in the top 10. Senior captain
MacKenzie Schmeltz (Edwardsburg, Mich./Saint Joseph) finished in 6
th with a score of 82. Freshman
Brooke Vowcheck (Peters Township, Pa./Peters Township) started off her collegiate career with a tied for seventh finish and score of 83. Senior
Lauren Tekely (Glendale, W.Va./John Marshall) finished in ninth with a 86 score. Rounding out the top Presidents golfers was junior
Julia Barthelemy (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) who finished 10
th having shot a 90 on the day.
Tournament Highlights
Top Team: W&J finished first with a team score of 329. The Presidents finished the tournament with a 32-shot advantage with the next best team finishing with a team score of 361.
Up next: The Presidents return next weekend with two rounds at the Heidelberg Invitational. The tournament will begin round one on Friday (Sept. 12).
