WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo team (0-3) dropped two contests on the second day of the annual W&J Invitational against Johns Hopkins (2-0) and Salem (4-2).
W&J 11, Johns Hopkins 31
Liam Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and
Dillon Parker (Nipomo, Calif./Central Coast New Tech) headed the Presidents first match of the day offensively with four goals each.
Brody Souder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley),
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and
Topher Mitchell (Annapolis, Md./Loyola Blakefield) each tacked on a goal.
L. Miller scored three goals in the first half accompanied by three goals from Parker. A. Miller and Souder each contributed a goal in the half before heading into the break, down 16-8.
The Blue Jays continued to double the Presidents scoring output in the third quarter, outscoring the Presidents 6-3. L. Miller, Parker and Mitchell each tacked on goals. The Presidents were shutout in the fourth quarter.
W&J 11, Salem 22
Mitchell led the way for W&J in the second match of the night for the Presidents with four goals.
The Tigers jumped ahead of the Presidents in the first quarter with an 8-1 lead. Salem grew that lead in the second quarter as the score ballooned to 13-3.
The Presidents scored four goals in the third quarter but remained down by eight, 15-7. Mounting another four-point quarter the Presidents were defeated 22-11.
W&J closes out action at the W&J Invitational tomorrow with an 11:20 p.m. match with Mercyhurst on Sunday (Sept. 7).
