TRAFFORD, Pa. – Two Washington & Jefferson College football players have been chosen for the Presidents Athletic Conference football weekly awards, as announced by the conference on Monday (Nov. 2). Junior running back
Andrew Sharp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was selected as the PAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Additionally, senior defensive lineman
Antoine Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Sharp totaled five touchdowns and 179 total yards in the Presidents' 42-14 victory over visiting Grove City in a battle of conference unbeatens. Sharp collected 151 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and in the process, became the first W&J running back to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark in a season since
Jordan West '19 did so in 2018. Sharp capped the opening drive with a five-yard TD reception and then went on to score rushing touchdowns in each of the remaining quarters of play. Sharp scored on rushes of 11/1/7/19 yards through the final three quarters.
Smith dominated on the defensive side of the football for the Presidents, leading to a 42-14 victory over Grove City to remain the only remaining unbeaten team in conference play. The senior pass rusher finished the night with 2.0 sacks, 3.0 tackles for loss and six total tackles. Two of Smith's sacks ended drives in both the first and third quarters of play. Smith helped keep the Wolverines scoreless in the second half, allowing 272 yards of total offense throughout the win.
W&J hosts Saint Francis for its annual Senior Recognition game next Saturday (Nov. 7). Kickoff in the matchup between the Presidents and Red Wolves is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Cameron Stadium.
