GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams wrapped the first night of action at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Grove City College. The men wrapped day one in third place while the women are currently in fifth place.
For the second consecutive season, the W&J men's 200-yard medley relay broke the program record in the event to open the conference championships. The team raced to a third-place finish with a new record time of 1:34.76, passing the former record by 0.15 of a second. The unit consisted of
Ethan Glessner (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward),
Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area),
Micah Lohr (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin). Glessner and Marks were both on the former record-holding group.
The men's team capped the championships opener with a third-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:11.84. The team consisted of
March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park),
Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area),
Brian Lowry (Wenonah, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) and Marks.
The W&J women were led by the efforts of the 200-yard medley relay team that concluded the event in fourth place. The unit of
Sophia Garrett (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy),
Mackenzie Caron (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin),
Riley Gutierrez (Deer Park, Texas/Deer Park) and
Maddie Malone (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) raced to a time of 1:57.48.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of
Andrea DeLong (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan),
Sophie Talamonti (Flushing, Ohio/Union Local),
Madison Mansell (York Springs, Pa./Northern) and
Audrey Kough (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) finished seventh with a time of 9:39.47.
The Presidents swimming & diving teams return to action for in the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool Thursday (Feb. 19). Preliminary events are scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. with finals to follow at 5:30 p.m.
