LORETTO, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team (6-5) fell 20-7 to the Saint Francis Red Flash (5-7) on Saturday (March 14).
The Ratcliff sisters led the Presidents offensively in this contest. Junior
Hallie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) finished the contest with four goals, and her sister
Emmie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) rounded out the scoring with three goals.
The two teams were trading goals to open the match. H. Ratcliff scored two, and E. Ratcliff had one to keep the game tied at three following the conclusion of the first eight-minute period. The Red Flash found an early advantage in the second by outscoring W&J 3-1. H. Ratcliff had the lone goal for the Presidents in the second period.
Saint Francis broke through the W&J defense in the third period to take a hefty 14-4 lead. The Red Flash continued to extend their lead in the fourth to take the overall 20-7 victory. E. Ratcliff scored two in the final period, and H. Ratcliff scored one.
Freshman
Lani Weaver (Conroe, Texas/Conroe) made nine saves throughout the contest while in goal for the Presidents.
W&J returns to the pool after a short break when they host the CWPA Weekend here at the Henry Natatorium between Friday (March 27) and Sunday (March 29). The Presidents begin the weekend by taking on the No. 5 ranked Augustana Vikings on Friday (March 27) at 7:00 p.m.
