LISLE, Ill. – Washington & Jefferson College senior slugger
Josh Dezenzo (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week, announced by the organization Wednesday night (April 8).
Dezenzo is the first W&J baseball player to earn recognition from the organization during a season since Tyler Horvat '23 in 2020 when he received a NCBWA Rookie of the Week selection. The closest the Presidents have been to receiving a NCBWA Hitter of the Week award occurred in March of 2012 when Josh Staniscia received NCBWA Honorable Mention laurels.
Dezenzo finished 9-for-12 at the plate (.750) with three homers and two doubles among the nine hits over three games last week. Dezenzo drove home nine runs in he three games. During the finale of a doubleheader with Allegheny, the designated hitter was 4-for-4 with two homers, seven RBIs and a walk.
W&J looks to reset on Thursday (April 9) with a nonconference single game with the Oberlin Yeomen at Ross Memorial Park. First pitch in Washington is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
