Presidents split on wild day in Auburndale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- No. 25 Washington & Jefferson rallied to defeat Babson 5-4, but SUNY-Brockport turned the tables on the Presidents later in the afternoon for a 9-7 victory at Lake Myrtle Park. 

The Presidents (6-3) trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning versus Babson, but struck for three runs.  Josh Staniscia and Kyle McLain produced RBI singles (McLain with go-ahead base hit), while Kyle Smith tied the game after Ronny Peirish reached on an error. 

Nick Kolat got the first two outs of the inning before McLain came on to record the final out with a runner on second base.  Babson loaded the bases in the ninth, but McLain held on as a line-drive to Anthony Paladino at second base turned into a double play.  McLain notched his fourth save.

Smith went 2-for-2 at the plate and drew two walks.  Kolat pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win.  He allowed only one hit and one walk.  Mike Vizzini threw the first five frames and allowed four runs on five hits, while fanning four. 

In the loss to SUNY-Brockport, D.J. Michalski` doubled home Nick Vento for one of W&J's three runs in the bottom of the third which built a 3-0 lead. 

The Golden Eagles (6-2) struck for five runs in the fourth and one more in the seventh for a 6-3 lead.  However, as the rain started to come down, W&J rallied with four runs in the eighth to take a 7-6 advantage.  Staniscia's bases-loaded triple tied the game and after two outs, Smith's infield single scored Staniscia for the lead. 

SUNY-Brockport answered with a trio of two-out runs in the top of the ninth, aided by two W&J errors.  The Presidents had runners on first and third in the bottom half of the inning, but Derek McIlvane lined into a double play to end the game. 

Staniscia had two hits and four RBI, while also stealing a base, while Vento went 2-for-4.  Staniscia has started the season with a nine-game hit streak.  Michalski crossed home plate twice.  The Presidents were hurt by five errors.  Tim Mulvey suffered the loss after allowing three unearned runs on just one hit in two innings of relief.
