Box Score FROSTPROOF, Fla. -- Benedictine (Ill.) scored seven times with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning and defeated the Washington & Jefferson baseball team 9-3 Wednesday afternoon at Frostproof High School.Â
The game was moved south to Frostproof after being postponed by rain Tuesday.Â
Three doubles in the second inning led to the first run of the game for the Eagles (2-4) off W&J starting pitcher
Tyler Dean.Â
W&J (6-4) tied the game in the fourth inning when
D.J. Michalski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. However, Josh Stanisicia flew out to end the inning.Â
The Eagles took advantage of two errors and two walks during the key seven-run inning, all of which came with two outs.Â
Anthony Paladino singled and scored on Staniscia's fielder's choice groundout in the sixth and the Presidents scored once in the ninth before leaving the bases loaded once again. Overall, the Presidents left 15 men on base.Â
Nick Vento was the only President with more than one hit after going 2-for-5 as the designated hitter. Dean took the loss on the mount after allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits (four walks) in 3 2/3 innings.Â
Cody Netzel walked seven batters in 5 1/3 innings, but still limited the Presidents to two runs on five hits to collect the win. Shortstop Max Oppenheimer had three hits and knocked in a pair.Â
W&J continues its spring break trip Thursday in Winter Haven versus Rutgers-Camden (11:00 am).Â
