Rutgers-Camden deals W&J third-straight loss

Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Rutgers-Camden scored the first 11 runs of the game and handed Washington & Jefferson its third-straight baseball loss after a 12-6 victory on Thursday at Lake Myrtle Park. 

The Scarlet Raptors (5-3) totaled 14 hits and scored two runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings before breaking the game open with a five-spot in the eighth. 

W&J actually had more hits with 15, but six of those came during a six-run eighth inning.  The Presidents (6-5) left 12 men on base. 

Ronny Peirish, Jake Gordon and Frank Fortunato all had two hits for Washington & Jefferson.  Fortunato's double was the lone extra-base hit. 

Joe Vita suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings.  Ron Reagan was the winning pitcher, tossing 7 1/3 innings and recording five strikeouts.  Doug Carter went 5-for-5 with three RBI in the middle of the RUC lineup. 

Washington & Jefferson faces a tough opponent Friday in an attempt to snap the losing streak as it takes on fifth-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg, Fla.
