Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla. -- Fifth-ranked Wisconsin Stevens-Point swept a baseball doubleheader from Washington & Jefferson on Friday afternoon at Pat Thomas Stadium. The Pointers (10-1) won game one 6-1 and then posted an 8-0 shutout in the nightcap.Â
W&J (6-7) started right-hander
Eddie Nogay in game one and he was dealt with a loss for the first time as a starting pitcher in 30 career starts. Nogay entered the game with a 24-1 record as his only other career loss in 45 appearances came in relief at Thomas More on April 16, 2013.Â
Nogay pitched his eighth career complete game and held UWSP to two earned runs on five hits, while striking out three.Â
Wisconsin-Stevens Point grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Kyle McHugh hit a two-run homer. The Presidents cut the lead in half in the second inning on back-to-back doubles by
Tyler Schultz and
Nick Vento, but USWP scored three unearned runs in the fourth before adding another in the sixth.Â
Max Frederick went the distance on the mound for the Pointers and struck out seven Presidents.Â
In game two, Luke Watson fired a four-hit shutout (5K, 1 walk). UWSP scored once in the second and four more times in the third to pull away.Â
Cory Bauer singled and doubled in three at-bats for half of W&J's hits.Â
Brian O'Neill pitched three innings and allowed five runs on eight hits to take the loss.
The Presidents will take on another nationally-ranked opponent Wednesday when traveling to Marietta (5:00 pm).Â
