Muskingum nips W&J late 6-5

Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Brett Robberts tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning and Muskingum added on two more runs to earn a 6-5 non-conference baseball victory over Washington & Jefferson Thursday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.

Robberts homered with one out in the ninth off W&J closer Kyle McLain.  The Muskies (14-16) added two more hits and took advantage of a W&J error to grab a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.  Cory Bauer's single made it a 6-5 game, but Tyler Keith struck out the final batter with runners on first and third to end the game.

The Muskies grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning following RBI singles from Christian Leitenberg and Will Simpson.

W&J (19-12) notched the lead for the first time in the bottom of the third with three runs.  During a hit-and-run sequence with runners on first and second, Kyle Smith smacked a ground ball that rolled into left center field for a two-run double.  Smith scored on Ronny Peirish's two-out single.

Leitenberg tripled to lead off the fourth inning and tied the game after scoring on a ground out.

Cory Bauer doubled home Ronny Peirish in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Washington & Jefferson a 4-3 lead before the Muskies rallied in the ninth.

Randall Risch tossed four scoreless innings and allowed only a pair of singles.  Tim Mulvey started and pitched four innings (3 ER, 10 H).  Bauer led the W&J lineup with three hits and two RBI.
