W&J sweeps season series from Westminster after 13-3 win

Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Josh Staniscia and Kyle McLain both collected three hits and knocked in three runs as Washington & Jefferson cruised to a 13-3 PAC baseball victory over Westminster on Wednesday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.  Staniscia also scored three runs for the Presidents, who improved to 14-9 overall and 9-2 in the PAC. 

The Titans (6-14, 3-5 PAC) loaded the bases with one out in the first inning against W&J starting left-handed pitcher Tim Mulvey, but could only score one run. 

Kyle Smith gave the Presidents a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run double and Ronny Peirish scored Smith on a ground out. 

After the Titans tied the game with two runs in the second, W&J grabbed a 5-3 lead in the bottom half of the second when Derek McIlvaine and D.J. Michalski both produced run-scoring ground outs. 

Nick Vento's triple brought home Peirish for a 6-3 lead in the third.  McLain broke the game open with a two-run single in the fourth inning and Staniscia tacked on a two-run triple two innings later. 

Mulvey tossed five innings and allowed three runs on six hits to improve to 2-1.  Smith went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in a pair, while McIlvaine and Michalski both scored two runs at the top of the lineup.  Nick Gatins also had a double and scored twice.
