Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson scored six runs in the first two innings and defeated Waynesburg 11-6 Thursday evening in PAC baseball action at Ross Memorial Park. The Presidents (24-12, 19-2 PAC) swept the season series from the Yellow Jackets (14-23, 10-11 PAC) for the fifth consecutive season.
Waynesburg scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning, but the Presidents quickly answered with four runs in the bottom half.
Kyle McLain brought in the first three runs with a bases-clearing double, while
Ronny Peirish followed with a RBI book-rule double.
Nick Vento doubled home a pair of runs in the second and his opposite-field solo homer in the sixth highlighted a three-run inning to give W&J a 9-2 lead.
The Yellow Jackets attempted to get back in the game with four runs in the top of the seventh, but
Mike Vizzini (1 1/3 IP, 1 K) and
Nick Kolat (1 IP) came on to close out the win.
Vento went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a homer run to lead the Presidents. He also drove in three and scored twice. McLain also had a pair of doubles and knocked in three, while
Tyler Schultz added three hits and two runs scored.
Michael Ruffing made his first start at shortstop since suffering an injury in Florida on March 15 and singled in his first two at-bats.
Dean collected his first victory of the season on the mound after limiting the Yellow Jackets to two runs on four hits in five innings (2K, 4BB).
