Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. --
Tyler Schultz's two-run single in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as Washington & Jefferson recorded a 6-4 non-conference baseball victory over Frostburg State Friday afternoon at Bob Wells Field.
The Presidents (25-12) have won six games in a row and 11 of their last 12 heading into this weekend's regular-season ending series with Saint Vincent. If the Presidents sweep the Bearcats, W&J would set a conference record for PAC single-season wins.
The Bobcats (27-12) plated an unearned run in the first inning for the early lead, but W&J countered with three runs in the third.
Josh Staniscia's two-run single put W&J in front. He later stole second base and a throwing error allowed
D.J. Michalski to score from third for a 3-1 advantage.
After FSU got one run back in the bottom of the third, four hits led to a pair of Bobcat runs in the fourth and the hosts built a 4-3 lead.
W&J scored three times with two outs in the sixth.
Ronny Peirish's singled up the middle scored Michalski.
Kyle McLain walked to load the bases and Schultz delivered the key hit of the game, the two-run single to right field.
Tim Mulvey and McLain took over on the mound from that point, holding Frostburg State off the scoreboard the final three innings. Mulvey (3-1) tossed four innings of relief and held FSU to a pair of hits (1BB, 1K). McLain struck out two batters in the ninth for his 10th save (2nd in NCAA Division III). McLain is one save shy of tying Ron Mitko '07 for the W&J career record.
Joe Vita started on the mound and surrendered four runs (two earned) on 10 hits (2BB, 2K).
Michalski reached base four times (2BB, 2HBP) and scored two runs. W&J was limited to five singles, but drew seven walks. Ryan Redinger's record for FSU fell to 5-2 after allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits in six innings (4BB, 3K).
