How it Happened: The Presidents were first on the board, but were unable to hang on to the lead as George Washington notched three in a row to give them a 3-1 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
37 seconds into the second quarter, the Presidents once again opened scoring, but a power play goal by the Colonials kept them ahead. W&J answered with its own power play goal shortly after. George Washington responded with another to put their lead back to two, but Washington & Jefferson was able to the difference back to one for the third time in the second quarter. It was short-lived as George Washington found the back of the net three straight times, giving the Colonials an 8-4 lead over the Presidents at the end of the second quarter.
Although George Washington was on the board first to open the third, it was W&J who scored back-to-back to put the score within three once again at 9-6. The teams then proceeded to each post a goal, wrapping the third quarter up with a score of 10-7.
The Presidents rallied to come within two in the fourth quarter, but two scores from George Washington kept the Colonials ahead. Following an exchange of power play goals by the teams, the score was sitting at 13-9. The teams exchanged once more, this time at full-strength, before Washington & Jefferson slipped the ball past George Washington's keeper one final time, making the final score 14-11.
Top Performers: In the cage,
Mac Hennessy made 16 blocks for the Presidents. On offense,
Nicholas Willison posted four of the 11 points and
Patrick Fredrick contributed with a hat trick.
The Rest: Brent Trewhella put a pair past George Washington, while
Gordy Schroeder and
Joshua Emde each tallied one for W&J.
What's Next: W&J will finish off their performance in the CWPA Championship on Nov. 22 at 9:00 am when they compete in the 11th place game against Mercyhurst.
