PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson swimming & diving teams kicked off the 2018-19 season with a road meet against Chatham on Saturday, Nov. 10.
The women's squad suffered a 131-56 setback against the Cougars. The men, on the other hand, took part in an unscored event.
Kaitlyn Pawcio (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) led the way for the Presidents, as she picked up wins at both the one-meter (134.00) and the three-meter (126.50) diving events.
As for the swimmers, freshman
Kimber Randolph (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) paced the team with wins at both the 50 butterfly and the 200 individual medley. She clocked a 50-time of 29.70 and a mark of 2:30.02 in the 200. Randolph also came in second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.48.
Kiera MacWhinnie (South Portland, Maine/Waynflete School) also had a stellar day, as she finished second in the 200 Freestyle (2:13.18), 50 freestyle (28.40), and the 100 backstroke (1:07.93).
As for the W&J men, today's event served as a tune-up heading into the season.
Zach Lauer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) paced the team in both the 50 backstroke and the 50 freestyle, clocking times of 30.44 and 24.21, respectively.
Freshman
Colin Higinbotham (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) also came out on top of two events, winning the 100 freestyle (50.34) and the 50 butterfly (24.20).
Dominic Gray (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) took the only diving event on the men's side, posting a score of 75.50 in the one-meter dive.
Both Presidents' teams will open the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 6:00 p.m. with a matchup against Westminster.
