NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams began their 2019-20 campaigns at Westminster on Saturday afternoon.
The Presidents fell to Westminster in both men's and women's action with Westminster winning 147.5-73.5 on the women's side and 160.5-70.5 on the men's.
Dean Kralic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) collected a pair of first-place individual finishes in the 100 yard backstroke (57.87) and in the 100 butterfly (56.97).
Andrew Ivory (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars) took first in the 200 yard IM (2:08.56) and second in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:26.42).
Mark Nikitine (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) secured nine points for the Presidents in the 500 freestyle at 5:27.69.
Colin Higinbotham (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) was the runner up in 50 free (22.51) and third in the 100 free (54.00).
On the women's side,
Kimber Randolph (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) went 1:06.67 to place first in the 100 butterfly and tied for first in the 100 backstroke (1:06.16).
Sarah Marshall (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.62.
Katelyn McKiernan (Columbus, N.J./Pennington) grabbed nine points in the 200 IM (2:46.67) and
Kaitlyn Ewing (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) did so in the 500 freestyle (6:58.51).
The men's and women's 200 freestyle relay teams posted earned 11 points apiece. The men's quartet of Nikitine,
Nick Belofsky (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora), Kralic and Higinbotham swam to a 1:33.10. The women's grouping of Randolph, Ewing, Marshall and
Isabella Manzari (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) finished in 1:49.82.
The Presidents host Chatham at the Henry Memorial Natatorium at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday.
