WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's swimming and diving team dropped a narrow decision to Westminster by a 152-136 score in a conference dual meet Saturday morning at Henry Natatorium.
The Presidents started out strong, winning five out of the seven events before the first diving break. The 200 medley relay team of
Kimber Randolph (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield),
Sarah Marshall (North Wales, Pa./North Penn),
Amanda Graves (Irwin,Pa./Penn Trafford), and
Molly Nielsen (Erie,Pa./Harbor Creek) kicked off the morning by touching first by over two and a half seconds. The relay time of 1:58.39 was a season best and fastest by a W&J quartet since PACs in 2017.
Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep) continued the success as she finished first in the 1000 yard freestyle with her time of 12:02.62. Newton stays undefeated in her collegiate career in the 1000 free.
Nielsen was the only President to record two individual wins. Nielsen claimed the 200 and 100 yard freestyles with her times of 2:05.79 and 58.21.
Ainsley Huang (Portola Valley, Calif./Summit Prep), Marshall, and Graves each brought home the gold in one event for W&J. Huang won the 100 yard backstroke with her time of 1:06.54 and Marshall finished five seconds ahead of second place with a time of 1:13.14 in the 100 yard breaststroke. Graves secured the 200 yard backstroke with her time of 2:18.18.
During the first diving break,
Taylor Weyrich (McMurray, Pa./Seton LaSalle) continued her success as she earned a victory in the 1-meter by three points over Westminster's second place finisher, Gayner Rossi. She continued the success for the Presidents as she edged out Rossi again to claim first in the 3-meter diving.
Westminster claimed four out of the final seven events, but W&J was able to finish how they started. Nielsen,
Isabella Manzari (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), Huang, and Graves won the 200 yard freestyle, clocking in a time of 1:45.11.
W&J returns to Henry Natatorium Saturday, November 6 to host PAC competitor Chatham. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
