KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Following the recently completed spring season, the Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team earned a Top 10 ranking in the final United Soccer Coaches Poll, the organization recently announced. The Presidents finished in the No. 10 spot in the rankings.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of fall championships in Division III. The Presidents played a modified spring season against fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) teams. W&J finished with an 8-2-1 overall record and claimed its second straight PAC Tournament Championship with a 2-1 win over Westminster on April 30 at Alexandre Stadium. W&J, who had earned the No. 3 seed in the four-team tournament, edged Grove City by a 2-1 score on the road in the semifinal round.
Fellow PAC member, Geneva, was ranked No. 12 in the final poll. The Presidents beat the Golden Tornadoes by a 2-1 score in double overtime in their regular season meeting on April 13.
Ian McDonald, in his 30th season guiding the Presidents, was named PAC Coach of the Year for a sixth time. The PAC Championship was the fifth for McDonald during his tenure at W&J. Eight Presidents received All-PAC honors following the conclusion of the season.
W&J is slated to open the 2021 fall campaign with a non-conference match at Point Park on Wednesday, Sept. 1. PAC play commences on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when the Presidents host Grove City.
