MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Following a week one road win at John Carroll University, the Washington & Jefferson College football team moved up six spots to No. 13 in this week's Top 25 poll released by D3football.com on Sunday evening.
The Presidents, who entered the season at No. 19 in the preseason poll, made the largest leap of any team in the poll this week. W&J used three touchdown passes from junior quarterback
Justin Heacock (New Concord, Ohio/John Glenn) to senior wide receiver
Andrew Wolf (Ashland, Ohio/Hillsdale) to earn a 21-14 victory over the Blue Streaks, who entered the game ranked No. 11. The two teams were both scoreless at halftime. However, Heacock and Wolf connected for scoring strikes of 65, 56 and 7 yards in the victory.
The top eight teams in the Top 25 poll remained unchanged. Meanwhile, John Carroll dropped to No. 22 with the season-opening non-conference setback. Westminster and Case Western Reserve were among the "Others Receiving Votes" this week.
W&J (1-0 overall) travels to Thiel College for its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 11. Kickoff from Alumni Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
