WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson track & field teams opened the 2022-23 indoor season with a pair of meets this weekend. A select amount of team members competed Friday at the Youngstown State Icebreaker Invitational before the rest of the team took part in the Case Western Reserve University Holiday Classic on Saturday.
Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) produced a pair of of lifetime bests Friday at YSU. Baughman turned in a time of 8.60 in the 60-meter hurles, a time which is second best in program history. Baughman also logged a career-best time of 51.96 in the 400 meter dash.
Nate Sciarro (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) finished 14th in the Long Jump at YSU with a mark of 6.74 (22-1.5).
The men's team produced 14 Top 10 finishes at Case Western on Saturday.
Duane Pratt (Masontown, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) turned in a fourth place finish in 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.57.
Raine Gratzmiller (Butler, Pa./Butler) was fourth in the 1000 (2:47.55) and sixth (4:48.02) in the Mile Run. Gratzmiller moves into seventh all-time in the 1000 in program history.
Daniel Deal (Butler, Pa./Knoch) was fifth in the Mile Run (4:48.02) and sixth in the 1000 Meters (2:54.02).
Andrew Bauer (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) was sixth in the Long Jump (5.94 meters) and placed seventh in the Triple Jump (12.40 meters).
Lorenzo Zeni (Monongahela, Pa./Rinngold) was seventh in the 1000 with a time of 3:05.12.
The men's 4x400 Relay Team, which consisted of
Anthony Cestaro III (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers), Gratzmiller,
Eli Westfort (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) and Deal logged a time of 3:53.51.
W&J had 14 Top 10 finishes on the day.
Cassie Carr (Girard, Pa./Girard) paced the Presidents on the women's side. Carr set the school record in the 1000 Meters with a time of 3:12.24 to finish first. Carr added a second place finish in the Mile Run with a personal-best time of 5:15.59. The time in the Mile ranks second in program history.
Bre Trusler (Daisytown, Pa./California) won the 500 Meters with a time of 1:28.45.
Anna Stroup (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) finished as the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles. Stroup timed in at 9.59, which ranks second in program history. Stroup timed in at 8.33 in the 60-meter dash to place fourth, which is 10th on the all-time list.
Sarah Schneider (Warren, Ohio / Lordstown) placed second in the Long Jump (4.92 meters/16-1.75) in her collegiate debut. Schneider's mark ranks seventh on the all-time list at W&J.
Jadyn Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) finished seventh in the Long Jump (4.67 meters/15-04.00) and seventh in the 500 Meters (1:34.40).
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio / Lake Ridge Academy) was fourth in the Mile Run (6:00.47) and the 1000 Meters (3:27.88).
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) finished sixth in the 800 while
Ava Taylor (Glenshaw, Pa./Oakland Catholic) placed eighth in the event.
The 4x400 Relay Team of Stroup, Trusler, Gilles and Carr finished seventh with a time of 4:38.18.
W&J returns to competition on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Muskingum Invitational.
