W&J featured in LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio (June 21) - The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) recently released the final Division III LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings. Washington & Jefferson College was one of seven Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schools to find itself among the prestigious national rankings.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. A total of 18 sports are counted in the final Division III standings (four of which must be men's and women's soccer and men's and women's basketball). The next highest sports (14 max.) scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.

W&J made it into this year's standings thanks to the four Presidents' Athletic Conference team championships. The Presidents finished tied for 131st place with 145 points. A total of 327 Division III schools registered points in this year's standings.

During the winter season, W&J amassed 70 points. The Red and Black earned PAC championships in both men's and women's basketball during the winter campaign. W&J earned 20 additional points in wrestling, as Jaden Datz (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Southmoreland) qualified for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

Following a successful spring season, W&J added 50 additional points in baseball, as the program captured its 14th PAC Championship and earned a pair of victories at NCAA Regionals. The PAC Champion W&J women's lacrosse team tallied 25 points following its second-straight title and second-straight appearance in the NCAA Championships.
