WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College football program announced Tuesday that
Aaron Krepps '06 and
Max Garda '21 have joined the coaching staff effectively immediately.
Both former accomplished players with the Red and Black, Krepps joins the program as an Assistant Head Coach while Garda will be an Intern Assistant Coach in charge of all Strength & Conditioning for the program. Krepps replaces
Bob Jazwinski '04, who will remain with the program in a part-time capacity.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Krepps and Coach Garda to our staff," head coach
Mike Sirianni said. "Both will be valuable assets to our football program. We are very fortunate to add both Coach Krepps and Coach Garda while having Coach Jazwinski stay with us in a part-time role."
Krepps recently served as an assistant coach at Ohio Northern University. He was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during his time at ONU. That was his second stint with the Polar Bears, as he previously served with the program in 2015 and 2016.
Krepps held the head coaching position at Bluffton University from 2018-21. The Beavers posted a combined record of 13-25 during his tenure. Krepps was the offensive coordinator at Bluffton in 2017.
Prior to his stints at ONU and Bluffton, he was an assistant coach at Alderson Broaddus (W.Va.) in 2014.
Krepps also served as head coach at his prep alma mater, Belle Vernon (Pa.) High School from 2009-13 after holding collegiate assistant coaching positions at Eastern Michigan in 2007 and Adrian (Mich.) in 2006.
He was a four-year letterman as a receiver and kick returner at W&J. Aaron was a two-time All-American wide receiver, an honorable mention All-American kick returner, a three-time All-President's Athletic Conference honoree and was named the ECAC & PAC Player of the Year as a junior in 2004.
Krepps' teams experienced tremendous success, claiming two conference championships and making three appearances in the NCAA playoffs. The 2004 squad remains one of the most successful teams in school history after winning its first 12 games during a run to the national quarterfinals. W&J defeated Bridgewater (55-48, OT) and Christopher Newport (24-14) in the first two rounds of the 2004 NCAA playoffs. Krepps 1-yard touchdown run with no time remaining on the clock forced overtime in round one. A week later, he had the go-ahead touchdown grab in the third quarter.
Krepps was inducted into the W&J Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
Krepps earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2006 from W&J. He was selected to represent Team USA in the All-American Aztec Bowl in 2005 and helped the Americans defeat Mexico 53-15 in Toluca, Mexico. Coach Krepps signed with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League in 2006 where he played in two preseason games.
"Coach Krepps was one of our most accomplished players at W&J," Sirianni said. "We are excited to add a person with his character and coaching experience at the college level to our staff."
Garda, a 2021 W&J alum, joined the Presidents' coaching staff as an Intern Assistant Coach in January of 2023. Garda, a three-time All-PAC honoree, racked up 194 total tackles and six interceptions during his career with Coach Luvara's defense.
He earned All-PAC First Team honors in 2019 after posting 65 tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions and three forced fumbles. Garda helped W&J to PAC titles in 2017 and 2018.
Garda garnered selection to the D3football.com Team of the Week three times during his career with the Red and Black.
He earned an undergraduate degree in business administration with an emphasis in entrepreneurship in 2021.
"We were excited to have Max on our staff," Sirianni said. "Max is a recent alum of our program who dedicated himself to being the best football player he could be during his time here."
