WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson Track & Field teams continued the indoor season Saturday when they traveled to compete in the Otterbein Invitational. W&J amassed 30 top 10 finishes and earned three individual championships Saturday at the event.
Women's Recap
The women's team registered 13 top 10 finishes Saturday.
W&J put four in the top of the five in the 800 Meters. Leading the way was
Cassie Carr (Girard, Pa./Girard), who raced to a first place finish in the 800. Carr logged a time of 2:27.28 to place just ahead of teammates
Claire Anderson, who was the runner up at 2:34.82. Carr's time is a new personal best in the event, as she moves up to third on the W&J all-time list.
Chloe LoCastro (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and
Maria Gilles (North Ridgeville, Ohio / Lake Ridge Academy) finished fourth (2:39.71) and fifth (2:39.89) in the 800, respectively.
Anderson finished fourth in the Mile Run. The freshman logged a time of 5:33.81. LoCastro was 10th in the event (5:48.38).
Anna Stroup (Port Royal, Pa. / Juniata) picked up a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Stroup clocked in at 10.20 in the event.
In the 400 Meters,
Bre Trusler (Daisytown, Pa./California) finished fifth with a time of 1:07.89.
W&J performed well in the relay events. The quartet of Stroup,
Jadyn Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry),
Regan Carlson (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) and Trusler recorded a time of 1:55.23 to place third in the 4x200 relay.
In the 4x400 relay, W&J placed fourth. The team of Hartner,
Sarah Schneider (Warren, Ohio / Lordstown), Carr and Trusler finished with a time of 4:38.38.
Schneider was also fourth (4.69 meters) in the Long Jump while Hartner placed seventh (4.47 meters) in the event.
Sarahgrace Porter (Charleroi, Pa. / Charleroi) finished 10
th in the Weight Throw with a heave of 8.42 meters.,
Men's Recap
The W&J men posted 17 top 10 finishes and earned a pair of champions at Saturday's meet.
The day was highlighted by a few first place finishes.
Nate Sciarro (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) won the Long Jump with a leap of 6.72 meters.
Anthony Cestaro III (Memphis, Tenn. / Christian Brothers) won the 400 Meters. The freshman crossed the finish line with a time of 53.16. His teammate,
Ian Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), finished second at 53.45 meters.
Baughman added a second place effort in the 60-meter hurdles (8.76 meters).
Alex Maslo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) and
Hayden O'Bryon (Irwin, Pa. / Norwin) went third (12.08 meters) and fifth (12.01 meters) in the Triple Jump, respectively.
Sciarro and
Declan Fricko (New Bethlehem, Pa. / Redbank Valley) tied for sixth in the High Jump. Both logged leaps of 1.75 meters.
In a loaded event,
Jake Sinclair (Beallsville, Pa./Beth Center) ran to a personal-best time of 4:26.14 in the Mile. That time puts him fourth in program history as he finished seventh in the event Saturday.
Sinclair,
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) and
Brock Pennington (North East, Pa./North East) all finished in the Top 10 of the 1000 Meters. All three move into the top six in school history in the event.
Daniel Deal (Butler, Pa./Knoch) and
Aden Dressler (Evans City, Pa./Butler) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 800 Meters.
Andrew Bauer (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) placed 10th in the Long Jump (5.70 meters).
In the 4x400 relay, the quartet of Cestaro III, Paul,
Riley Runyon (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) and Baughman, who finished second at 3:37.92.
