TRAFFORD, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson senior
Tyler Horvat (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March.
Each month, the SAAC groups at PAC member institutions are asked to nominate one male and one female student-athlete for PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must be varsity team members in their respective sport and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athlete of the Month nominees must also have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within their campus communities.
Horvat led the Presidents to an 11-4 record in March by going 4-1 for the month on the mound. Horvat currently leads the PAC with seven wins and ranks second in the league with 48 strikeouts. At the plate, he ranks first with 26 runs scored and second with 35 hits. He was named the PAC Pitcher of the Week for March 20 and earned D3baseball.com Team of the Week recognition for March 22.
The senior maintains a 3.99 GPA majoring in Finance, has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2021 & 2022, as well as being named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
On campus, Horvat is a member of the Washington & Jefferson Accounting Society, as well as serving as team captain for the Presidents' baseball team.
Bethany junior Grace Tice (track & field) earned the honor on the women's side. Female March honorable mention nominees included Washington & Jefferson senior lacrosse standout Sarah Labovitz.
