WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team was listed in the first edition of the Division III Baseball regional rankings, which were released by the NCAA Wednesday afternoon.
The Presidents are one of seven teams highlighted in the first set of Region 7 rankings, which lists schools alphabetically rather than a true numerical ranking. The second set of regional rankings, which will be released on Wednesday, May 3, will be the first to rank the teams in each region.
W&J sports a 23-9 record against Division III competition this season. The Presidents are currently tied with Grove City for first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference standings at 13-3.
Baldwin Wallace, Case Western Reserve, Denison, John Carroll, Marietta and Ohio Northern joined W&J in the Region 7 listing. W&J holds a 2-2 record against other ranked teams in its region. The Presidents beat Baldwin Wallace by a 10-9 score on Feb. 26. W&J split a doubleheader at CWRU on March 5 while the Presidents fell by a 12-4 score at Marietta on April 5.
W&J also faced three teams who are listed in the Regional Rankings outside of its own region, Johns Hopkins (Region 5), Colby (Region 1) and Wisconsin Stevens Point (Region 9), in non-conference play this season.
The Presidents are scheduled to travel to Thiel College for a league twinbill on Saturday, April 29.
