Field hockey schedule set for 2023 campaign

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The 2023 schedule is set for the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey program's inaugural season competing as an affiliate member in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

The 2023 schedule features six non-conference games and 10 NCAC contests for a total of 16 competitions in the regular season.

A road trip to Virginia to take on Shenandoah University opens up the season on Sept. 1. The following weekend W&J will take part in the two-day Wilson College Invitational on Sept. 9-10.

The Presidents open the home slate versus NCAC foe Allegheny in a conference match on Sept. 13. Conference play continues on Sept. 16 when W&J hosts Oberlin in a 6 p.m. match at Cameron Stadium.

After back-to-back home contests, W&J heads on the road for four consecutive matches. That stretch includes matches versus Juniata (Sept. 20), Wittenberg (Sept. 22), Transylvania (Sept. 24) and Wooster (Sept. 30).

Following the quartet of road games, W&J hosts a pair of matches on homecoming weekend. The Presidents take on DePauw (Oct. 7) and Earlham (Oct. 8) in a pair of home NCAC contests.

The Red and Black heads to Kenyon (Oct. 11) and Ohio Wesleyan (Oct. 14) for a pair of NCAC games.

Two of the final three regular season matches will take place at Cameron Stadium. The Presidents will welcome former Empire 8 conference opponent Houghton College for a match on Oct. 21. The final week of the regular season sees W&J hit the road to face Allegheny in a non-conference match on Oct. 25 before hosting Denison in the finale at Cameron Stadium on Oct. 28.

This fall will mark the second under head coach Maggie Fees, who served as the interim coach during the 2022 season. W&J returns a trio of players who were honored by the E8 following last season. Sophomore Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) was the E8 Rookie of the Year while Hailey Wachowiak (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) earned All-E8 First and Third Team honors, respectively.
