Schmeltz Takes Thiel Fall Invitational Crown in Season Opening Action

SHARON, Pa. – The W&J women's golf team wrapped their first invitational of the 2024 season at the Thiel Fall Invite. The Presidents finished second of the eight total competing schools.

W&J: 2nd out of 8
 
Top W&J Individual: MacKenzie Schmeltz (Edwardsburg, Mich./Saint Joseph) finished in first-place to win the Thiel Fall Invitational. Schmeltz finished eight strokes over par, with the next best golfer slotting in with 13 strokes over par.
 
Notables: Megan Joyce (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) was the Presidents next-best finisher, taking sixth-place and shooting 15 strokes over par. Dinah Bailey (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) also placed in the top 10, taking eighth and capping over the day 17 strokes over par. Antolena Damico finished just outside the top 10 at 11th, having shot 19 over par.
 
Tournament Highlights
Top Team: W&J (+66) finished as the second-best team this Saturday, finishing behind Division II Clarion (+64). The Golden Eagles finished two strokes away from the Presidents in a close cross-division action.
 
Up next: The Presidents will enter a weeklong break before returning to the course for the Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Invitational, starting on Sunday (Sept. 22).
