Swimming & Diving Sweeps Bethany at Season Opening W&J Tri-Meet

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams competed in a season opening tri-meet with Bethany and Division II Wheeling. Against the Bison, the W&J men won 161-6 while the W&J women won 148-14. Against the Cardinals, each team dropped their contests.
 
March Yuan (Simi Valley, Calif./Oak Park) led the way for the men with two first place finishes. Yuan took first in both the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.22 and in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:06.41.
 
Zach Lloyd (Dillsburg, Pa./Lloyd Academy (Homeschooled)) led the men's divers with a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive with an 11-dive score of 467.1. Will Angus (Grafton, W.Va./Grafton) placed second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 146.95.
 
Senior captain Nathaniel Harden (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 28.21. The captains' splits in the breaststroke were a sign of good things to come when the team gets into longer events.
 
Micah Lohr (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Daniel Jeffries (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield Area), Perry Barnhart (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Ethan Glessner (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) all took second place in their events. Lohr posted a time of 25.71 in the 50-yard butterfly. Jeffries raced to a mark of 49.83 in the 100-yard freestyle. Barnhart finished with a time of 2:25.24 in the 200-yard IM. Glessner posted a time of 26.41 in the 50-yard backstroke.
 
Mackenzie Caron (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) had a statement meet for the W&J women. Caron raced to a first-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.74. The freshman also swam her way to a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a mark of 11:08.90.
 
Amiyah White (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) finished first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 322.3 through 11 dives. The sophomore diver matched her personal-best score in the 1-meter dive.
 
Riley Gutierrez (Deer Park, Texas/Deer Park) posted two top three finishes. She finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.90. Gutierrez also place third in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 30.84.
 
W&J continues its start to the 2025-26 season on Saturday (Oct. 25) as they host another Presidents' Athletic Conference foe, Westminster. First event against the Titans is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
