MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches (NWCA) honored three Washington & Jefferson College wrestling student-athletes when it announced the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-America awards for individual and team recipients.
Receiving individual honors were
Taylor Smith (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata),
Casey Smith (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) and
Hunter Swedish (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley). This marks the 16th consecutive year that W&J has had at least one NWCA Scholar All-American. W&J has had multiple Scholar All-Americans in 10 consecutive seasons.
Taylor Smith made his second appearance as an NWCA Scholar All-America following his sophomore season. Smith wrapped 2025 with a 16-3 overall record, as the NCAA Division III Region IV 149-pound champion and Presidents' Athletic Conference 149-pound champion. At the NCAA National Championships, appearing for the second-straight year at the event, showed promise with a 1-2 record.
Brother and Teammate
Casey Smith picked up his first NWCA Scholar All-American honor in his first full season on the mat. Smith finished the season with a 23-5 record, as the PAC 157-pound champion. Smith placed third at the NCAA Division III Region IV Regionals in the 157-pound bracket to punch his ticket to the NCAA National Championships. At his first Nationals appearance, Smith finished with a 1-2 record.
Senior captain
Hunter Swedish earned his fourth-straight NWCA Scholar All-America honor. Swedish racked up a career-best 28 wins for a 28-7 record on the year. Swedish wrapped his career as a President with 94 career victories. Swedish was named the PAC Most Valuable Wrestler after winning his third conference title in the 141-pound bracket.
"The NWCA is proud to honor these outstanding individuals who demonstrate excellence on the mat and in the classroom as well," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer.
