DANVILLE, Va. - The Washington and Jefferson College wrestling team wrapped day one of the NCAA Division III Region IV matches, resting in ninth of 20 competing teams.

Christian McChesney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg-Salem) also produced a flawless showing on day one of regionals in the 285-pound bracket. McChesney started his day off with a win by fall over Porter Trapp of Southern Virginia in the first period (2:25). McChesney the concluded his day with a win by decision over Carter Stack of Washington & Lee (4-2), to advance to the semifinal round.

Taylor Smith (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) kicked things off for the Presidents as one of their top finishers, completing an undefeated day in the 149-pound bracket. Smith began his day with a fall over Porter Kinne of Southern Virginia (1:52). In his final match of the day, Smith registered a victory by major decision over Andres Cortes of host Averett (18-5), to advance to the semifinal round.

Hunter Swedish (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) remained alive after day one of the NCAA Regionals in the 141-pound bracket, going 2-1 on the day. Swedish logged a first-match victory over Andrew Sas of Otterbein University by tech fall (TF 4:02, 18-1). Following a loss in the quarterfinals by a slim 7-5 decision, Swedish remained alive with a win by tech fall over Adon Overstreet of Randolph (TF 5:58, 19-4).

Casey Smith (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) rounds out the Presidents wrestling advancing to day two of regionals in the 157-pound bracket. Smith began his 2-1 day with a victory over Zeke Poulos of Muskingum by tech fall (TF 6:53, 21-6). After a 2-0 loss by decision in the quarterfinals, Smith also remained alive with a victory over Cannon Long of Shenandoah by tech fall (TF 6:23, 22-7).

All four remaining W&J wrestling compete in day two of the NCAA Wrestling Regionals tomorrow, Saturday (March 1). Matches are scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
